Audition Central: Magic Tree House: Pirates Past Noon KIDS

Script: Jack

Side 1

FIRST MATE

Places, rapscallions! Places!

(JACK and ANNIE look around the tree house as if they’ve just entered it.)

ANNIE

Brrrr. I wish this rain would stop.

JACK

It’s supposed to stop by noon.

ANNIE

It’s already past noon.

(ANNIE spots a book out of place.)

Uh oh.

JACK

What?

ANNIE

The mysterious “M” person has been here.

JACK

How can you tell?

ANNIE

First of all, I can just feel it. Plus, I don’t remember that book being open when we were here last time.

JACK

Me neither. Do you think “M” was looking for the gold medallion we found in dinosaur times?

(JACK pulls a gold medallion out of his pocket and holds it up. ANNIE retrieves the open book on the tree house floor.)

ANNIE

I don’t know. But, look at this sunny beach, Jack. Doesn’t it look great?

JACK

Yeah. Cool parrot, too.

Side 2

MORGAN

Hello, Jack. Hello, Annie. My name is Morgan le Fay.

(Astonished by the transformation, JACK and ANNIE stare at MORGAN for a moment, completely unable to speak.)

ANNIE

Whoooaa. You must be the mysterious “M” person!

MORGAN

(laughs)

Yes, I’m the “M” person.

JACK

(hands her the gold medallion)

So... this must belong to you... ?

MORGAN

Ah, yes, my gold medallion. I must have left it in the time of dinosaurs. Thank you for bringing it back.

JACK

But... how... who... wh-where are you from?

MORGAN

I am from the magical kingdom of Camelot.

ANNIE

I knew the tree house was magic! What do you do there? In Camelot?

MORGAN

I am a librarian. But I travel in this tree house collecting books and stories from many times and places. And it seems I found the perfect helpers.

JACK

Who?

MORGAN

Why, you and Annie, of course.

Side 3

MOLLY

Is that the top of a trunk I spy?

NATHANIEL

Maybe just driftwood.

WILHELMINA

Maybe not.

BILLY

Cap’n, I think maybe we found the—

BONES

Treasure!? Aha! Well don’t just stand there! Dig up that trunk!

(ANNIE notices POLLY circling above them in the sky.)

ANNIE

Hey, look, there’s the parrot! From the picture in the book! Hi, Polly!

(POLLY dives toward JACK and ANNIE.)

POLLY

Go back! Go back!

ANNIE

I think she’s trying to tell us something.

(JACK, looking up at POLLY, notices just how ominous the sky looks.)

JACK

Oh, man, the sky got so dark. Looks like a big storm is coming.

Side 4

ANNIE

Look, Jack! The ocean! And sunshine!

JACK

Cool!

(TEEKI sees JACK and ANNIE in the tree house.)

TEEKI

Oooh, look, humans! Short ones.

ISLAND CREATURES

Uggghh! Humans!

(All of the ISLAND CREATURES except for TEEKI, STELLA and PEDRO hurriedly exit.)

STELLA

Nice nest.

PEDRO

That’s not a nest. I believe that would be called a tree house. Way too big for a nest.

(ANNIE climbs down the tree house ladder.)

ANNIE

Let’s explore!

JACK

Wait, let me get the book!

STELLA

Oooh! Let’s watch what they do!

PEDRO

Okay. But from a safe distance.

Side 5

ANNIE

I’m Annie, and this is my brother, Jack.

JONAH

Can I ask you something, Annie and Jack?

ANNIE, JACK

Sure.

JONAH

How did you learn to read? I mean, you’re just kids.

ANNIE

Where we come from, most kids can read.

JONAH

Really?

JACK

Yeah, and it’s great. We read all the time, all sorts of books.

JONAH

You have more than one book?!

ANNIE

Of course. We have whole libraries. Stacks and stacks of books about everything you can imagine. And more.

JACK

So if we ever start to get bored, there’s always something new to read!

JONAH

I wish I could learn to read! Then maybe I wouldn’t feel so alone on this ship.

ANNIE

You can learn to read!

JONAH

But how?
