MTI Streaming FAQs
What are the three Streaming Licence options and their differences?
There are three different types of Streaming Licences:
Live-Streaming: Sell tickets and stream a live event in real-time.
Scheduled Content: Sell tickets and stream pre-recorded content you schedule for viewing at a fixed time or times.
Video On Demand: Upload a pre-recorded video of your event or previous productions for patrons to purchase and watch on-demand.
Can I record the performers individually and then edit the show together for the video "performance" via a video conferencing platform like Zoom?
No. MTI’s Streaming Licences are specifically granted for live-streaming or captures of a live performance. MTI’s Online Editions have been optimized for remote/online performances and information can be found here.
Live Stream and Scheduled Content
How many times am I allowed to stream an event?
There is no limit to how many times you can stream an event. You can have an unlimited number of streams, but no stream can be more than 4 hours.
Can I do either a live or taped curtain speech before the streaming begins?
Yes.
How many patrons can view a stream at once?
There’s no limitation to the number of patrons who can view a stream simultaneously. If desired, event organisers can set the maximum number of tickets available for an event.
Can I record the performers individually and then splice the show together for the video "performance" via a video conferencing platform like Zoom?

Streaming Licensing
Is it possible to stream previously recorded performances that were licensed through MTI? How?
Yes, if a Streaming Licence for Video on Demand is available for that particular show, you can upload a previously recorded performance. If you have an archival copy of an MTI show that you previously had a video license for, you can apply for a Streaming Licence and once approved, you can post the video on the platform for 12 months. After that, you will need to sign another Streaming Licence agreement.
Do I need to purchase a new Video Licence for Streaming?
If you want to upload a past archival show for Scheduled Content and Video On Demand and you already purchased a video licence you will not be charged for a new video licence. If you want to upload a past archival show for Scheduled Content and Video On Demand and a video licence was NOT available at the time of your performance, and one is available now, you will be charged for a new video licence in addition to a Streaming Licence and Performance Licence. If you simply want to make an archival copy and share with your cast and crew, you would need a video licence.
In addition to a Performance / Streaming Licence, what other permissions do I need?
While MTI does not require additional documentation, we strongly encourage all organisations to have all performers and cast/creative team members sign a release allowing them to be filmed and have their work shown on the platform.
Is it possible to have zero in-person performances and only stream?
Yes. You still need to apply for a Standard Performance License for the appropriate dates in addition to a Streaming License.

Streaming Royalties
How are streaming royalties paid?
Royalties will be calculated based on a percentage of your streaming ticket sales. So, if you only sell one ticket - you only pay for one ticket.
Will streaming royalty rates be adjusted for lower attendance?
No, streaming royalties are not calculated based on the size of your theatre – you only pay royalties as a percentage of your ticket sales.
How much does it cost for my audience to watch a streamed production?
Organizations can set their own ticket prices, so the cost to audience members is up to you to decide.
What happens to the video asset after the stream event?
Archival recordings of live streams are stored for review, if necessary. These archival recordings are not distributed or available to arts organizations or patrons.
