J.F. Lawton

J.F. Lawton is a writer of film, television, fiction and stage. He has been nominated for a Writers Guild of America Award, a British Academy Award and is a member of the Dramatists Guild, Inc. and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Over his film career, he has written screenplays for every major Hollywood studio in genres from comedy and romance to action and drama. His credits include the iconic film Pretty Woman which began as a prestigious Sundance Institute Lab project and went on to become one of the most successful romantic comedies of all time. His next big hit, the action film Under Siege, was also based on his original screenplay. The film opened at #1, broke box-office records and spawned a successful sequel. His other films include: the independent drama Mistress, the superhero comedy Blankman for Columbia Pictures, the action film The Hunted for Universal Pictures, 20th Century Fox’s action-thriller Chain Reaction and DOA: Dead or Alive, based on the video game of the same name. He created the #1 rated syndicated television series V.I.P. for Sony Pictures, writing the pilot and numerous episodes over its four-season run. As a novelist, he wrote Cosmic Ray’s Celestial Revival, a compelling story about hope and redemption. For theater, Lawton co-wrote the hit musical show Pretty Woman: The Musical which broke box-office records at the Nederlander Theatre on Broadway and at the Piccadilly Theatre on London’s West End.
