Cheri Coons has co-written ten musicals which have received professional productions. Her newest project, River s End, was selected for the 2004 Eugene O Neill Theater Center s National Music Theatre Conference, as well as Chicago Disney/ASCAP Workshop. Along with composer Michael Duff, she wrote At Wit s End, which received Florida s 2001 Carbonell Award for Best New WorK, and has been produced by Florida Stage and Chicago s Northlight Theatre. (www.atwitsendthemusical.com) Rodeo, written with Sean Grennan, Kathy Santen, and Michael Duff, was selected for the Disney/ASCAP Los Angeles workshop, and developed by ASCAP s In the Works program under the guidance of Stephen Schwartz. She shared Chicago s Joseph Jefferson Award for Best New Work for Sylvia s Real Good Advice, and has received four additional Joseph Jefferson nominations in the category of Best New Work for projects to which she contributed either lyrics or book and lyrics. She is also the recipient of Chicago s After Dark Award for her lyrics for Female Problems, An Unhelpful Guide, based on the book by syndicated cartoonist Nicole Hollander. A review of her work, Yadda, Yadda, Yadda: The Lyrics of Cheri Coons was honored as one of Chicago s 10 Best Cabaret Shows of the year by both Cabaret Scenes magazine and Cabaret Online. In May, 2004, she performed at Carnegie Hall with composer partner Beckie Menzie in an evening hosted by Michael Feinstein. Her original novelty songs have been featured on Good Morning, America, The Today Show, and NPR S Morning Edition, and her lyrics have been quoted in The New York Times and USA Today.
