RICHARD ADLER co-composed the music and lyrics for numerous musicals including The Pajama Game and Damn Yankees, both of which won Tony awards for best musical and best score. His hit songs include "You Gotta Have Heart," "Whatever Lola Wants," "Steam Heat," "Rags to Riches," "Another Time, Another Place," and "Everybody Loves a Lover." Adler's television musicals “Little Women,” “Gift of the Magi” and “Olympus 7-000” were critically acclaimed. Mr. Adler also composed numerous symphonic works, including four Pulitzer Prize nominees, ballets for dance companies in Chicago, Fort Worth (TX), and Miami, and commissions for the U.S. Department of the Interior ("Wilderness Suite") and the Statue of Liberty’s centennial ("The Lady Remembers"). He received numerous other awards and honors, including two Donaldsons, two Variety Critics, and The London Evening Standard Award, the University of North Carolina Playmakers Lifetime Achievement Award (1999), as well as the coveted National Parks Service Honorary Ranger Award (1984). Mr. Adler was admitted to the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984. He died in 2012 at age 90.
